On April 9, the Board of Directors of the St. Johns River Water Management District approved the District's annual local agency grant program to support local agency projects that advance the District's mission. One of the grant applications the Board approved was an application submitted by the City of West Melbourne to assist the City with the cost of constructing a new sewer system for the Sylvan Drive neighborhood and taking these homes off their old individual septic systems. This project will help reduce pollutants entering into the nearby County drainage system that empties into the Indian River Lagoon at Crane Creek. The City's construction of the improvements will begin this fall after the grant funds become available.
The City appreciates the work of the St. Johns River Water Management staff in their recommending of the 2019-2020 local agency cost share program to the St. Johns River Board, and thanks the Board of Directors for approving the City's $674,629 grant application.
