Public Works

The City of West Melbourne Public Works Department is responsible for providing many of the basic public services that contribute to the overall quality of life in the West Melbourne community. Whether you drive on city streets, walk on the sidewalks or even pour yourself a glass of water, the employees of the Public Works Department are here to help ensure that these routine activities are performed as trouble-free as possible.

Services

The West Melbourne Public Works Department maintains all streets, drainage, traffic and road signs, and rights-of-way for the City. Other services provided by the Public Works Department include:

  • Cleaning drainage ditches
  • Grading dirt streets
  • Installing and maintaining street signs
  • Mowing and maintaining rights-of-way
  • Patching potholes
  • Street resurfacing program

The Public Works Department inspects all new streets, sidewalks, storm drains and curbing that developers build in the City to make sure that they comply with all City Codes.

Water Department

The primary functions of the West Melbourne Water Department are to provide quality drinking water to the public, prompt service on installation of waterlines and meters and fast response to water breaks. For 'after hours' water system emergencies, call 321-261-1766.

Sewer Department

The West Melbourne Sewer Department and Wastewater Treatment System is currently operated via contract with Jacobs. The Sewer Department maintains and operates the City's wastewater system by upgrading manholes and lift stations and providing reuse water to accommodate the public need. Their office hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. until 3 p.m. and can be reached at 321-984-0485.
