Parks & Recreation Advisory Board

Responsibilities

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board was created by Resolution of the City Council of the City of West Melbourne for the following purposes:

• To serve as a central point of communication for the parks and recreation interests of the City and as an advisory body to the City Council
• To review proposed park acquisitions and improvements and to make recommendations to the Recreation Manager and City Manager and, where appropriate, the City Council
• To review current parks and recreation programs and facilities to determine additional needs and submit recommendations pertaining to these needs
• To provide and/or gather public input on parks and recreation long-range plans
• To serve in an advisory capacity to the Planning Department for the location, construction, maintenance and funding of parks and recreation facilities
• To make recommendations regarding applications for and participation in federal, state and district land acquisition and capital improvement and grant programs and
• To review all parks and recreation related matters submitted to the board by the City Council

Composition

The Parks and Recreation Advisory Board consists of seven registered electors and residents of the City. Members of this board are appointed to serve at the pleasure of the City Council for two year terms expiring in odd numbered years or until their successors are duly appointed and qualified. Any board vacancies shall be filled by appointment of the City Council.
