AUTOMATED COLLECTION FOR YARD WASTE COMING SOON
Waste Management is enhancing your curbside collection and they are transitioning to carted yard waste service for automated collection. A new 96-gallon yard waste cart will be delivered to each residence in late September and you can start using the cart on October 1, 2023. There will not be any changes to your current trash and recycling cart, so please keep using them like normal.
Automated Collection
Automated collection is a thoroughly proven method of residential solid waste collection as a cost-effective option to manual collection. Each home is provided with three special carts for the trash, yard waste and recyclables. These carts are easy to roll and placed curbside on the designated collection day. The garbage trucks, equipped with a lifting device on the curbside, will lift, empty and return the carts to the same spot. The driver never has to leave the truck cab, but controls the entire loading operating from his seat. The entire collection process takes about 15 seconds to complete.
Curbside Collection Carts
Trash Cart (Green Lid) - All trash must be inside your cart, items outside the cart will not be collected.
Recycling Cart (Yellow Lid) - Plastic bottles, Jugs and Tubs; Aluminum, Tin, and Steel Cans; Paper (newspaper, office paper, or junk mail); Cardboard; and Glass. Single Stream Recycling does not require items to be separated. Please DO NOT bag recyclables, items must be loose inside your recycling cart.
Yard Waste Cart (Brown Lid) - All small branches, leaves, grass clippings, and palm fronds MUST be placed in your 96-gallon yard waste cart. No small piles on the ground, please. DO NOT bag yard waste. Bagged yard waste is NOT accepted at the Brevard County Landfill.
CURBSIDE COLLECTION REMINDERS
Have your cart curbside the night before or no later than 6 a.m. on your collection service day. Place your cart at least 3 feet away from all objects including other carts, mailboxes, cars and trees. The lid opening should face the street with the wheels of the cart facing your house.
"SINGLE STREAM" RECYCLING
Single stream recycling is a system in which all paper fibers and containers are mixed together in one large wheeled rolling recycle cart and mixed together in a single collection truck, instead of being sorted into separate commodities (newspaper, cardboard, plastic, glass, etc.) by the resident and handled separately throughout the collection process. In single stream, both the collection and processing systems are designed to handle this fully commingled mixture of recyclables, with materials being separated for reuse at Waste Management.
