Responsibilities
The City of West Melbourne Code Enforcement Board hears and decides cases referred by a city official (inspector, code enforcement officer) when a violation continues beyond the time specified by the City official for correction. The city official notifies the office of the City Clerk in writing and requests a hearing before the Code Enforcement Board.
The board may issue orders imposing administrative fines and liens against an alleged violator and/or property owner. A board order may be recorded in the public records and thereafter constitutes a lien against the land on which the violation exists and upon other real or personal property owned by the violator. A search of the public records by a title search company should reveal any Code Enforcement lien.
Composition
There is one Code Enforcement Board for the City of West Melbourne. The board is limited to seven members and two alternates who are appointed by the West Melbourne City Council. The board is governed by Florida Statute, Chapter 162 and City Ordinance, Chapter 2.
Board vacancies will be posted on this web page, The Sun Newsletter, and within City Hall. If you are interested in serving on the Code Enforcement Board please complete the Application for Board Vacancy (PDF) form, attach your resume and submit the form and your resume by email to Cynthia Hanscom, City Clerk, or by mail to:
