This COVID-19 operational update is for the fourteen days from Thursday August 27 through Wednesday September 9. Positive cases of COVID-19 infections have been trending down this period nationwide, in Florida, in Brevard County, and locally.
Last Wednesday September 2, in accordance with the authority granted the City Manager in Section 11 of the West Melbourne Emergency Masking Ordinance No. 2020-05, I administratively extended the City Council’s Emergency Masking Ordinance for an additional week, from the previous expiration on September 7 to a new expiration at midnight on September 14. In accordance with the requirements of Section 11, this one week extension has been filed with the City Clerk and posted on the City’s web site. This information was also provided directly to the identified ‘essential businesses’ by members of the City’s Police Department.
Over the past two weeks, I participated in conference calls with the Brevard County Emergency Operations Center, and the Space Coast County, City and Town Managers group. I have scheduled the next County, City and Town Manager COVID-19 conference call for September 24. In these calls, the municipal and county managers share current information and planned actions related to each local government’s evolving responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Last Friday, the Promise Café in West Melbourne Community Park opened the Aves’ Place Ice Cream portion of the Café. Tomorrow morning, the group picnic areas outside of the Space Coast Field of Dreams area and the splash pad off the Promise Café patio in West Melbourne Community Park will reopen.
